The Lenten Season began with Ash Wednesday on  February 26th and continues through to Easter Sunday on April 12th.  Although our Sunday worship services have been temporarily suspended, we encourage you to follow the steps of Jesus throughout the Lenten season.  There are assigned scriptures for each Sunday in Lent that can help you with your own meditation.  Read more about Lent and Easter at Parkdale United Church.

March 29th — Fifth Sunday in Lent.  The scripture for this Sunday is John 11: 1-45.  Read Murray’s reflection on the scripture, Choosing to Bring Life into Dead Places.

Our next Book Club is scheduled to meet on Saturday, April 11th.  Rather than having an in-person gathering, we will be exchanging our comments about the book in a distance format — either by email or Zoom.  Our April book selection is The Ghost Keepers by Natalie Morrill.  Read more about our March discussion, book choices for the remainder of the 2019-2020 year and next year’s nominations in the Parkdale Book Club March Newsletter.

Our Spring Garage Sale that was scheduled for Saturday, April 25th, has been postponed to a later date.

Solar Panels and High-Efficiency Boilers:  Nobody Need Wait to Improve the World!

Parkdale United Church is committed to protecting God’s wonderful creation and ensuring that we have a “green” facility.  In March 2020, we installed 99 solar panels on the roof of our sanctuary.  This exciting project is the culmination of a year of planning, working with Sky Fire Energy who designed our solar energy system.  There are 45 panels on the west-facing roof of our sanctuary and 54 panels on the east-facing roof.  Each panel is capable of generating 395 watts of solar energy.  The combined capacity of all the panels is 39.105 kilowatts.  The solar panels allow us to generate electricity for our own use as well as contribute some back to the grid.  See a photo of Parkdale United Church New Solar Panels.  View the Historic and Current Power Generation of our new solar panels!

In 2018, we replaced our 55-year-old boilers that were 55% efficient with new boilers that are 85% efficient.  Hank’s Plumbing & Gasfitting Ltd. installed our new boilers that save 30 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.  See a photo of our New Boilers.

Weekly Spiritual Reflection

Each week, we send out a “Spiritual Reflection” to individuals who are on our email mailing list.  We send a blessing along with these reflections, hoping that the quotes and photographs will bring you peace, joy or encouragement for the week. If you would like to receive our weekly Spiritual Reflections, please contact the church to have your name added to our mailing list.   Click here for the March 29th Spiritual Reflections, Opportunity and I Will Not Forget You.  We invite you to view a gallery of some of our past Spiritual Reflections.
