Responding to Covid-19 — Please note that Sunday Worship services and all church activities are suspended until further notice. We trust you and your loved ones are healthy. These are unprecedented days and we are all trying our best to navigate this uncharted and challenging terrain. These are days to be especially mindful of making good choices with ourselves and each other; choices like gratitude and kindness, patience and respect. These are days to express our care and compassion; a quick note or a phone call can be a wonderful grace filled gift. Please read more in our May 26th Update. We are not alone; we live in God’s presence. May you experience God’s guidance, love and strength.
June 28th – Our theme for this week is “Being Canada.” Three members of our congregation offer their thoughts on some of the values that we, as Canadians, uphold. Read some prayers, hymns and reflections in June 28th Reflection on Being Canada.
July 5th – Our scripture text for this week is Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30. Read some prayers, hymns and Murray’s reflection in July 5th Reflection on the Scripture.
Zoom Tea Parties – Although we are keeping physical distance between us these days, we don’t have to be socially isolated from one another. Parkdale United Church is hosting weekly Tea Parties where we can get together using Zoom. It gives us a chance to visit with each other and catch up, while sitting in the comfort of our own homes with a cup of tea. Please contact the church office for the weekly tea party dates and the Zoom login information. We hope you will join us for tea and a chat!
Our next Book Club is scheduled to meet on Saturday, September 12th. from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. We will let you know in September if an in-person meeting will be available. We will continue to offer Zoom as a way of participating in the discussion, even if we are meeting in person. Contact the church office to get the Zoom link to connect to the meeting. Our September book selection is Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman. Read more about our June discussion and the reading selections for the 2020-2021 season in the Parkdale Book Club June Newsletter.

Parkdale United Church is committed to protecting God’s wonderful creation and ensuring that we have a “green” facility. In March 2020, we installed 99 solar panels on the roof of our sanctuary. This exciting project is the culmination of a year of planning, working with Sky Fire Energy who designed our solar energy system. There are 45 panels on the west-facing roof of our sanctuary and 54 panels on the east-facing roof. Each panel is capable of generating 395 watts of solar energy. The combined capacity of all the panels is 39.105 kilowatts. The solar panels allow us to generate electricity for our own use as well as contribute some back to the grid. See photos of Parkdale United Church New Solar Panels. View the Historic and Current Power Generation of our new solar panels!
In 2018, we replaced our 55-year-old boilers that were 55% efficient with new boilers that are 85% efficient. Hank’s Plumbing & Gasfitting Ltd. installed our new boilers that save 30 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. See a photo of our New Boilers.
Each week, we send out a “Spiritual Reflection” to individuals who are on our email mailing list. We send a blessing along with these reflections, hoping that the quotes and photographs will bring you peace, joy or encouragement for the week. If you would like to receive our weekly Spiritual Reflections, please contact the church to have your name added to our mailing list. Click here for the July 5th Spiritual Reflection. We invite you to view a gallery of some of our past Spiritual Reflections.
